I want to build a page where fans can come in and check these autographs against something that might be sold through eBay, iOffer, or any other site that deals in selling autographs. I have seen too many people get taken by these schemes, and I want fans to be able to get their hands on the real deal. We've collected several samples of Roger's autograph (courtesy of wartypig), but we need the remaining members of Supertramp. If you have access to the authentic autographs (or if you know exactly what it should look like), please upload the photos to the Autographs collection in the Photo Gallery.

PHOTOS & VIDEOS
Thanks to everyone who have uploaded photos and videos to the site - please keep them coming! When uploading photos and videos, make sure to add them to the appropriate album. If no album exists, go ahead and create it. Adding your pics and videos into an album not only helps keep both sections neat and tidy, fans will be able to find them much easier. :)

2010 TOUR DATES

Apr 4 - Byron Bay Bluefest
Tyagarah Tree Farm
Australia
Info | Tickets

Apr 6 - Palais Theatre
w/ special guest 10cc
Melbourne, Australia
Info | Tickets
On sale Nov 9th

Apr 9 - Enmore Theatre
w/ special guest 10cc
Sydney, Australia
Info | Tickets
On sale Nov 9th

Vienna concert, September 30, 2009

Vienna

Actually I wasn't able to write a single word for some days after this concert, my emotions were too bubbly, too deep, I can't even describe the feelings I had when the concert and days with my friends were over ... but then I decided to write a review anyhow, whatever comes out with that, maybe it will be a surprise in some way for me, too.

When I heard that Roger Hodgson is going to do a concert in Vienna, the capital city of my homecountry, just a few "steps" away from my hometown, it was like a personal gift to me ... I never thought it would happen to see Roger in the town I know rather well and where I worked for several years in the past .. well, dreams are coming true sometimes, and that's why I'm a believer!

My friend Claudia and her hubby from Germany also decided to join me in Vienna and a few weeks later, Mick from Ireland, told me he wants to come, too, so we were a small but nice formation of our "Gang" from Nuremberg in March this year. I was incredibly happy to see them again and headed for first row tickets as soon as the concert was announced at the homepage of the venue. Telling the good news about the upcoming concert to my brother and two friends of mine they also decided to go.

Summer months went by and soon it was end of September.

Claudia and her hubby arrived in the morning of the 30th on Vienna airport and my hubby and me waited there to pick them up .. oh it was so incredibly exciting to meet them again, I can't say how much I looked forward to welcome my dear friends with a big hug in my homecountry.
A few hours later I was happy that also Mick arrived safely in Austria and we all met at our house, had lunch together and in the afternoon we headed to Vienna for we were all invited to attend the soundcheck in the concert house ...

In Vienna we met my brother Sigi and then we waited for Linda Tyler at the main entrance to pick us up for soundcheck and there we surprisingly met another German Roger Hodgson Fan, Elke, she came with her family and they had managed a long journey by car and seemed a bit tired but above all happy. Elke and her 'boys' stayed with us and soon Linda came, welcomed us warmhearted and lovely, hugs made the round and she lead us to the concert hall. We took seats in the middle of the hall and soon Roger and Aaron started soundcheck, before that Roger waved and gave a 'hello' to us, that was really nice. Roger seemed to be worried about the piano, it wasn't in tune and he had to work that out for a rather long time.
Then Roger offered a real special gift for us, he played an unrecorded song "I knew it well" for us at soundcheck, we were thrilled about that, the song is amazing :)))
The concert house in Vienna is a beautiful place, an original art nouveau building with impressing interior design - a perfect venue for a concert of such a wonderful artist like Roger :)))

Roger finished his soundcheck and was then occupied by other people, I remember him calling out to us 'I see you guys later' and then we went out the hall, saw Linda to say goodbye and thanked her for being so lovely and kind to us !! Honestly we were hoping to get a chance to talk a few words to Roger and thank him personally for inviting us to soundcheck but otherwise we were really grateful to have had that special gift to attend those 'private', extra minutes with our favourite artist on stage and the more he played his new song especially for us, knowing that all is still nearly unbelievable for me, I don't think many artists would do so much for their fans ...

There was a bit time left until the beginning of the concert so we decided to take something for dinner and went to a near restaurant.
After returning to the concert hall we met my two friends who also joined us at the concert and soon it was time to head for our seats. On our way to the hall we recognized that there was a kind of 'guestbook' at the merchandising stand where fans could write personal messages to Roger, and Claudia, Ali, Mick and me wrote a few lines in there.

The hall was already full of people, we were some of the last to come in and I cannot deny that it was an incredible feeling to head straightly forward to the first row !! And then we recognized how near that first row was to the stage ... oh wow, there was not a single better place in the whole hall I guess ;)) I remember the lovely smile of Linda Tyler when we arrived at our seats and she stood there at the side entrance, looking for us, I love to remember that moment, she seemed also happy for us and our luck with the seats :)))

Linda stepped over to us and talked a few words again and wished us a great time at the concert - THANK YOU, Linda, at that point, for everything you do for us crazy fans .. we just LOVE you !!!!
Then we hardly couldn't wait any longer for the concert to begin ;)) But we needed to be a bit patient for there was a support act on stage for about 20 minutes before Roger started, well, they really did a nice job, an excellent guitar player and a lovely female singer, but all we were waiting for was Roger ...

The promoter came on stage and announced Roger, and the audience cheered and clapped for him, and we started to get a bit worried for Roger was not in sight for a - it seemed to us - long time of at least three minutes ... well, finally Roger certainly appeared and an amazing concert evening started. It was so amazing to sit just next to the stage ... we could even count the lines on Roger's shoes ;)) It definitely was a 'livingroom-atmosphere', that's what makes Roger's shows so most special, too. And it was just magical that we enjoyed a kind of 'communication' with the artist we adore so much during the whole concert, the smiles we all exchanged spoke volumes.

The Playlist :
Take the long way home
Give a little bit
Lovers in the Wind
Hide in your Shell
Easy does it
Sister Moonshine
Rosie had everything planned
A Soapbox Opera
Alone came Mary
The Logical Song

INTERMISSION

Breakfast in America
Lord is it Mine
Child of Vision
The Awakening
Don't leave me now
Dreamer
Fool's Overture

Encore

School
It's raining again

Roger seemed to enjoy the show as well as the whole audience, the atmosphere was fantastic ... at some stage he said the Vienna show is one of his last ones this year but he could go on doing 70 more, I believe him every single word - and Aaron did an outstanding job as expected ... I was ravished by his piano part at 'Child of Vision', absolutely brilliant :))

A wonderful surprise was that Roger played his beautiful unrecorded song 'The Awakening' - he rarely plays it at his concerts, that was truly a gift to listen to :)))

Another amazing fact ... my brother who is a fantastic hobby-photographer took many wonderful pics during the concert, so I was just enjoying the show, knowing he will do a good job for sure ;)) Thank you so much, dear Sigi :)))

My friends from Vienna enjoyed the whole show as well, I often took a look over to them, and it was a wonderful feeling to see them totally 'wrapped' in Roger's music and charms :)))
At the end Claudia, Mick, Ali, Sigi and me were nearly unable to leave the concert hall ... again it was much too short ... Roger's concerts could last forever, we would never get tired of listening, clapping, cheering, laughing, singing, dancing .... oh what a pleasure that is :)))
The fact that we were not meeting Roger personally because of different reasons made us sad though... but agreed we have had a most special 'meeting' anyhow ... the whole concert, the soundcheck, and we friends united there ... it was all so beautiful :))))

The next day, after we had 'Breakfast in Austria', we returned to Vienna to walk around the city and did some sightseeing. Our first 'station' was the colourful house of the artist 'Friedensreich Hundertwasser' where we also stepped in to the shops and museum ... Claudia wrote about that already so wonderful in Roger's guestbook, but I want to retell what we discovered there .. we came across a beautiful quote from that artist, it says 'The right to dream is one of the last human rights' and all of us agreed that this fits perfectly to the meaning of Roger's message, to so many things he shares with all of us ... what would we be without our dreams ? They do keep us carry on, strengthen our hopes and beliefs, they can take us wherever we want to be ...

That last hours with my wonderful friends from the gang were really special, precious, I so love to think about all we enjoyed ... it was wonderful, also funny and happy in everything we did, if it was sightseeing or having lunch or even shopping ... I had a ball, I can't express how much it all meant to me to see Claudia, Ali and Mick again in person .... I so hope we will meet again soon, and really, really wish there will be the whole gang and more reunited then ... reunited at another awesome Roger Hodgson concert, all I can say at the end is THANK YOU, Roger, thank you again for the gift of your music, for you as a wonderful human being, for connecting people, and for making this year a most special one for me by attending four concerts of yours !!!!

Christine

Links

Official Sites

A free show !!! Only 2 hours drive from my hometown!!! That was such a fantastic surprise to me for I was hoping to see Roger together with an orchestra some day .. I really didn’t expect to have that chance so soon !!! 2009 seems to be a real ‘Roger year’ for me … Munich, Nuremberg (with all the wonderful and unforgettable memories with my dear Garden Gate Gang … hey, Gang, I really, really missed y’all in Linz!!!), now Linz and then Vienna in September … I AM a ‘lucky dog’ and so grateful for that :))

My hubby and me started our journey on Friday, August 21 about 3 p.m. – we had a smooth drive of about 2 hours and made it safe to Linz. We visited a longtime friend of ours who lives in the area of Linz and who we don’t get to see very often, and we had a really nice talk, coffee and cake :)

About an hour later we got back to the city and found a parking lot near the Danube river where we started towards the center. Looking at the sky and dark clouds made me a bit worried concerning wet feet, but we decided to think positive and that helped ;))

When we arrived at the venue in the city it was already crowded by many people and on stage was one of the local artists that performed before it was ‘Roger-time’ at 9 p.m.

We walked around the place and the stage and I was ‘scanning’ the crowd if there was any familiar face to find …. And some time later I was overhappy to catch a glimpse of Linda Tyler :)) I was hoping to see her in Linz and talk a few words so I stepped over to her but she really seemed in a hurry and was straightly heading to a hotel entrance just next to the stage, so I thought to better not disturb her right now and waited if she would return. Linda returned a few minutes later and I thought I’ll just wave to her and then she recognized me with a big smile and ‘hello’ and instantly we hugged each other :)) We spent a few very nice minutes together – though often said, but not often enough : Linda is simply a wonderful, warmhearted human being :)))

From then onwards Christian and me decided to stay near the stage and joined the ‘support act’ on stage. When they finished at about 8.15 p.m. it was a perfect moment to reach the ‘top places’ in front of the stage because now the very young audience mostly moved somewhere else. And yeah, finally we managed to take place in the ‘central’ first row – woohooo :)) What a feeling !!!

After all the preparing on stage was done the musicians of the ‘Bruckner’ Orchestra of Linz one by one arrived, drums (Jesse Siebenberg!!), bass, saxophone were ready …. and finally Roger came on stage :))

Take the long way home …. Yeah, now my first time at a Roger Hodgson Orchestra show started … it was magical, amazing, stunning …

Probably not in the right order and hopefully complete – these are the songs we were listening to :

Take the long way home
Give a little bit
Lovers in the wind
Hide in your shell
Easy does it
Sister Moonshine
If everyone was listening
Breakfast in America
Only because of you
A soapbox opera
Along came Mary
Lord is it mine
School
Logical song
Dreamer
Fool’s Overture

Encore:
Two of us
It’s raining again
Give a little bit

All these songs sounded absolutely wonderful and amazing to me … and one of the ultimate highlights at the show was ‘Only because of you’ .. I never heard Roger playing it live before, that is without doubts a typical ‘Orchestra-song’ and it was a truly gift to listen to.

During the concert I was often looking into the faces around me .. people were getting more and more into singing, clapping, cheering, laughing, dancing ... a happy crowd captivated by an exceptional artist and his ‘crew’ :))

Roger definitely seemed to enjoy the show as well as all the musicians on stage – they all established a fantastic formation and also had much fun … at the end of Fool’s Overture it was time for Roger to head for the baton .. the orchestra seemed to go crazy … and Roger had to intervene for corrective action ;))

Then Roger left the stage and certainly everyone cheered for him to come back .A few moments later he returned and offered us three more songs … with a crowning, very, very special end for me …. as Roger finished with ‘Give a little bit’ he threw the plectrum right in front of me to the audience …and hey, I really got that precious piece :)) I would have never expected such an outstanding gift … I love, love, love it :))

And just as Roger uses to announce ‘Give a little bit’ at the encore, we left the scene with our hearts full and happy to had the opportunity to join that incredible concert. Roger, thank you so much for sharing your precious time with us, for giving your music, heart and soul and hopefully your tour keeps moving smoothly - may you all on that tour keep being healthy and having good and safe times!

‘Music really is a good friend in times when we’re having a hard time ‘

This was one thing Roger said while introducing his songs in between and still these words are buzzing in my head – I believe everyone can just agree to that statement, it’s simply the truth :))

Christine Pinter

Notes from Management

September 9, 2009

Hi Everyone,

We’re finally getting a couple weeks break from this extensive 70 city tour and as we're approaching the last leg of Roger's touring for 2009 we thought we would take a moment to express how amazing it has been to look out upon Roger's audience each night and see fans of every generation, of so many different cultures, all being brought together and unified by his music. It never ceases to touch our hearts to witness so many people reliving their memories with the music, and couples and families singing together creating new ones. And it has been wonderful meeting so many of you.

So many fans have written to us how much they enjoy reading Roger’s guestbook and all the beautiful letters that are sent to him ( Roger really enjoys them also! :)). For those of you who haven’t written, please don’t be shy, post a message. And for those of you that have written but haven’t spent time reading the guestbook, may we suggest you take some time with a nice cup of tea, sit back, listen to Roger’s music and enjoy some of the beautiful writings.

Roger has often said that the most meaningful thing for him as an artist is to hear how his songs have helped someone through a difficult period in their life or helped bring joy and happiness, inspiration and hope or have just created that feel good quality in their heart and soul. This is why it’s so special to read about people’s experiences in the guestbook.

We hope to see some of you at his final upcoming concerts:-

Sept 23 Gottingen, Germany
Sept 24 Paderborn, Germany
Sept 26 & 27 Brussels, Belgium
Sept 29 Biberach, Germany
Sept 30 Vienna, Austria
Oct 4 Valladolid, Spain - with Orchestra
Nov 6 & 7 Rama, Ontario, Canada - with Orchestra & Choir

Also wanted to let you know that Roger’s DVD – Take the Long Way Home – will be broadcast on 3 SAT in Germany, Austria, & Switzerland at 2:35 am on September 12th. ( That's very late on Friday night or very early on Saturday morning. )

Cheers,
Linda & Shakti

P.S. And for those of you who haven’t sent in a review of Roger’s concert or DVD, we would love to receive one from you.

In Roger's Words

June 23, 2009
Message from Roger upon the passing of his mother

As many of you already know, my Mother passed away last week. I wanted to thank you all for your sincere condolences and prayers for Jill.

Her heart had been failing for some time and she was no longer able to enjoy life. I had been going to visit her as much as possible between my concerts this year and am so grateful that she waited for me to come and be with her one last time in the hospital before transitioning peacefully in her sleep.

Yesterday we had an intimate family cremation and I spoke my gratitude to her for how she had supported my musical dreams and I sang for her. She had been able to come to see me perform at The Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Stadium and last year at Stowe school where many of my songs and dreams were born.

I am grateful that her suffering was not long and drawn out and that her soul is now free and resting in peace.

- Roger Hodgson

Audio

Coming Soon!
Fast alle ihrer besten Lieder stammen von ihrem Leadsänger: Bekanntere wie "Hide in your shell" oder "Take the long way home" und unbekanntere Perlen wie "Two of us".

Hodgson still causes goosebumps

Michael Hochheuser, Schwäbische Zeitung, 10.07.09

English translation by Claudia Yildiz

TUTTLINGEN – The “Honbergsommer 2009” has been opened with the performance of Roger Hodgson on Thursday evening. The former singer and songwriter of Supertramp fascinated the audience with his interpretations of their classic hits and also convinced with his solo works.

This voice accompanied many of them, who were young in the 70’s or 80’s. His characteristic high and fragile seemingly voice didn’t le him down until today. At his performance in Tuttlingen he also had no problem to strike the high notes of the evergreens of his former band Supertramp and as well of his solo-songs.

Some of the listeners who were no longer “spring chicken” may have had goose bumps and some of them had teary eyes when Hodgson stroke up his classic hits like “Take the long way home” or “Give a little bit”. He wrote the songs together with Rick Davies from Supertramp and their albums were sold some million times then. Nearly all of their hits were written by their lead singer Roger Hodgson: famous ones like “Hide in your shell” or “Take the long way home” and unknown pearls like “Two of us”.

Many of these songs were on the set list on Thursday evening, because Roger Hodgson knows what his fans are longing to hear. But his solo songs were also highly acclaimed – after all, he remained faithful to the Supertramp sound which you can hear by listening to his solo hit “In Jeopardy” or the album “Open the door” from 2000.

It is pretty marvellous how the musician was able to create the original Supertramp sound only with piano, guitar, and the accompaniment of the saxophonist Aaron MacDonald. Occasionally MacDonald played other keyboard instruments and a melodica. Even a delay unit was used to double Hodgson’s voice.

He had a good report with the audience very quickly and told them a lot between his songs – e.g. that his concerts were like a time travel for him. At most of the songs, the audience sang along with as letter-perfect as Hodgson. During “Easy does it” nearly the whole big top, which was sold out, started whistling. In between Hodgson conjured up some forgotten Supertramp treasures like “Rosie had everything planned” from their second album, shortly before their breakthrough. It was a fantastic prelude of the “Honbergsommer”.

When Sensibility Sings

De esta manera comenzó a interpretar 'Lovers in the wind'.

-----------------

“WHEN SENSIBILITY SINGS”
By ROBERTO TERNE
Posted on Spanish paper EL NORTE DE CASTILLA
July 14th, 2009
English translation by ABEL FUENTES

Roger Hodgson’s talent filled with magic and history one of the most unforgettable nights at San Benito

Very few times you can see among the audience faces and feelings so full. And if it happens in Valladolid, a town famous for its stoical people, it’s even more unbelievable. Roger Hodgson belongs to that select set of artists who are able to make the world a better place thanks to a bunch of songs.

You can call it musical talent from old times, enduring hippism, musical positivism or rock scienciology… But the most important thing is that seeing Roger playing live means experiencing feelings very similar to the ones you could experience with the talent of George Harrison, Dylan, Pink Floyd or ‘The Boss’. They were artists who raised the collective conscience not just with their message but also with their sound and their compositions.

Roger Hodgson arrived yesterday in San Benito with a very light luggage on stage: just two twelve-strings guitars, a piano and a keyboard. He was accompanied by the polyvalent Aaron McDonald, who has a talent able to yield keyboards, sax and flute. No percussions or rhythmic hindrances for a music full of fluency and harmony… Maybe there is where that spiritual charm with the audience comes from.

From the beginning of the show Hodgson wanted to satisfy an audience that, in spite of being in the age of demand, yesterday reached a kind of youth ecstasy. It was logical since the former vocalist of Supertramp got straight to the point and he performed his everlasting hits from the start of the show. ‘Give a little bit’ was one of the first ones he played. Never three chords were so productive.

On the other hand, never such few people could be so sounding on stage. At San Benito there were just two musicians, but many atmospheres seemed to be created by many more persons. It was due to Hodgson’s twelve-strings Gibsons and to the work that his sound engineers made with the delay of his voice, but also to the performing his companion did on stage.

Hodgson transmits affection. He was joking during all the show about his troubles with Spanish language and his inability to pronounce the word of the night: Valladolid. At the beginning of the concert he explained his wish to play the songs that make up what he called his “trip through life”.

This way he started to play ‘Lovers in the wind’. From then on came great moments of the show with ‘Hide in your shell’ and, especially, with ‘Easy does it’, a song where Hodgson was helped by the whistles (musical ones) from the audience.

The show also had some master touches since he explained how and when he wrote ‘Breakfast in America’ and ‘Along came Mary’. From talent rhythm and simplicity, Hodgson went towards more elaborated and progressive moments with ‘Fool’s overture’, when he and his companion played to mix structures and sonorities. It seemed something quite easy for someone who was a star during the first adult decade of rock.

After a first farewell, Roger Hodgson returned on stage twice, the last time with all the lights at San Benito turned on and with the audience devoted and excited at the end of the show. It was the best moment to play ‘It’s raining again’, a song everybody sang in a very special night full of true feelings. Again, the simplest thing became the most effective thing.

And after the show, it was time to remember the slogan from the old times rock: the world is a much better place with a bunch of great songs.

We Will Never Surrender

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER

Source: AVUI newspaper. Date: 3rd July, 2009. Reporter: David Castillo. Translated by: Alex Marti.

Last summer, at the Festival de la Porta Ferrada, in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Roger Hodgson said he was missing playing in Barcelona , where succes was high while he was with Supertramp in three memorable tours in 1977, 1979 and 1983. The city was living times of uncertainty and the band succeeded with its endless list of hits that were being played on everyone's homes, such as Crime of the Century, Crisis? What crisis?, Even In The Quietest Moments, Breakfast in America, the live in Paris album, and Famous last words. The differences between Hodgson and Rick Davies, the other song writer, were so deep that they finally caused the divorce. When Supertramp returned to Barcelona in 1985 without Hodgson, the disaster had already been consummated. Nothing would resemble the past.

As if they had heard the words of Hodgson, the dynamic company “The Project” contracted him for a summer concert at the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. The presentation was identical, Formerly Supertramp, with Roger Hodgson and canadian multiinstrumentalist Aaron MacDonald, who plays keyboards, piano, harmonica, sax, clarinet, sings and anything else needed. One man's band suits the multifaceted personality of the british composer, who also played lots of instruments. The beginning was like in Sant Feliu, with powerful hits such as Take the long way home and Give a little bit. The winning serve would give the first points in front of an unconditional audience, around 2300 tickets sold. They thanked the two musicians their enthusiasm and their determination to the Supertramp nostalgic script.

As a gift to the audience of Barcelona, Hodgson played a mellow unreleased tune to get back afterwards with Easy does it, Hide in your shell, Breakfast in America and The logical song, where the singer gave some of the most inspired of his work , a rite of passage song that reminds you of a wonderful life, rather than education trying to turn you into "sensible, logical, responsible, practical, and in the end becoming" intellectual and cynical. " The song sounded poetical and new in Montjuïc: "There are times, when all the world's asleep, the questions run too deep for such a simple man."

The gentle wind cooling the stands while the high ring voice and the melodramatic tones sounded from 9:30 pm until midnight, only broken by a fifteen minute pause to rest. Sympathetic and grateful, the english composer continued unfolding the magic Supertramp moments getting to the top by performing Two of us, Even in the Quietest moments, Dreamer and the Fool's overture , where you can hear Winston Churchill's voice with his famous "We will never surrender" and London's Big Ben bell.

Strongly appealing to Supertramp's success, the concert ended with works of art such as School and It's raining again. Hodgson sticks to his feelings and to his work. Who said that nostalgia isn't what once was?

Nuremberg/Germany (March 20th 2009)

The short way back to Nuremberg
A very special weekend with very special friends

Actually my second trip to Nuremberg already started on May 26th 2008. It was the morning after Roger’s concert in Nuremberg. That night will be unforgettable to me because I had the chance to meet Roger after the concert for the first time in my life. So when I heard the announcement that Roger will come back to Nuremberg in 2009 I was sure I will be there too. So I called the ticket centre immediately the next morning and ordered again two tix for the first row – fantastic!!!
I think also Gregor and Miriam planned very soon to come to Nuremberg again so we were “three” of us. Because of our enthusiasm of making Roger a big birthday party there, gradually “the gang” gathered and Christine from Austria, Anina from the Faroes, Mick from Ireland, Sylvia from Swiss and finally Sabine from Malta joined us.

The week before our “big day” I was so excited I can’t express in words. I really panicked and had the fear that someone might become ill, but luckily everything went perfect and we all arrived well and healthy in Nuremberg.
So on Friday at about 11am Ali and I closed our shop and headed for our way to Nuremberg!! Yep, now the adventure started.
We decided to meet for lunch at the “Sausalitos” for our “blind date” (we all knew each other only from Kathy’s chat).

So we arrived very early at the Sausalitos and I was excited if there already would be one of my friends. We looked around and suddenly I saw Anina waiting before the restaurant. We hugged and went inside the restaurant together. Bit by bit all the others arrived and it was a big hello and hugs all around. What a great moment to meet all my friends “live”. And everyone really was the same as I expected from the chat and it felt like meeting long time and well known friends. There was so much to talk about, to laugh about together and not to forget all the pics… Sometimes you had to concentrate in which direction to laugh for the camera.
At about half past three we finally left the restaurant and headed for the venue. Linda invited us for the sound check and we should be there at half past four.
When we arrived a the hall all the doors were closed, so we went all around the building and finally found the stage entrance - and: it was open !!!

We sidled inside and the doormen looked at us with big eyes and asked if he could help us. I told him we had an invitation for the sound check and he looked at us with an incredulous glance but finally showed us the way to Linda. She was talking to somebody and her door was open. I really didn’t dare to go inside, I was sooo nervous. So I knocked at the door and Sabine and I tentatively stepped inside. When Linda recognized us she directly stood up and welcomed us all very friendly with a big hug for everyone. What a kind and warm hearted person she is. Humorously she said that Roger hasn’t arrived yet and that we could start the sound check without him. We all laughed. She guided us to the hall then and showed us our seats. Before she left us again she turned round and asked if there were any special wishes and Anina and I said we would like to hear “The Awakening”.

We went back to the stage entrance and waited for the others, who arrived shortly after us. So we had some time now to sign the beautiful birthday banner which Christine created and Miriam and Sylvia also signed Roger’s birthday card.

Aaron was already onstage and started to arrange his instruments. I met Aaron last year too and for some silly reason I didn’t have anything for him to sign for me, so today I took along a photo from him and I thought this could be the right time to ask him for an autograph. Christine and I slowly went to the front of the stage but Aaron didn’t recognize us. So we dared a chary “hello” and then he looked up and we asked him to sign the photo and Christine’s ticket. I think he first wasn’t sure if we really meant him but then he was very pleased to give us the autographs.

Being a real crazy crowd, we all knew Roger had to enter through the stage entrance to which we could look from the big glass doors… so we stood there inconspicuous and looked outside off and on – LOL
Some time later a car arrived and the wizard got out of the car and headed for the entrance. There was a murmuring amongst the crowd and then we went back to the hall again and took our seats.

Shortly after us Roger went onstage and the sound check started. Roger and Aaron only played some measure of each song and seemed very relaxed and were joking at eachother. They didn’t let their selves get worked up by some workers who stood right in the middle of the stage with a huge ladder and changed some bulbs in the spots. It was a really funny picture and Christine always feared they may fall down right on the grand piano – LOL
And speaking of fun: not every bass player should think he is good enough to play with Roger...
Eventually Roger took his twelve string and started the chords of “The Awakening” - and he played it from beginning to the end. What an unbelievable moment. I was moved to tears. He really played it for us.
Still floating after this, the next surprise won’t be long in coming. Linda came over to us again and said “please come to a short meet and greet with Roger”. Wow, I didn’t expect that and we were “flying” to Roger. He welcomed us with “Hi gang” and we all laughed and chorused “Hi Roger”. Linda introduced us to him but actually it wasn’t necessary because he all remembered us. Of course there were lots of hugs and photos with Roger and the atmosphere was amazing. He was really astonished that we all were there and he asked: “and you have all come together tonight to see me?”

When it was my turn I gave him THE card we all signed and said “Roger, it’s your birthday tomorrow and this card travelled around the world for you and some of your biggest fans signed it.” I don’t know the exact words, because you can imagine how nervous I have been. He opened it immediately and asked whose idea it was and I said very gentle that it was mine and he beamed at me and gave me a hug.
He really was very touched when he saw the messages we wrote for him and said something like “I will read this tonight when I’m alone”.

I don’t know how long we have been there with him, but we had plenty of time, there was no pressure of time and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We made some pics with Roger and all of us and also some pics with Linda.
Roger wished us to have fun at the show and then he went off.

The moment we left the hall, the normal entrances opened and the other attendees came in but honestly said I still was so excited and I had the feeling it is only “us” who are there - a big and in a positive way a crazy “family”.

Shortly after that everyone took their place, the lights went down and the show started. When Roger appeared on stage we welcomed him with an enthusiastic and long applause. He said “I guess I took the short way back to Nuremberg” and started the show with “Take the long way home” as always followed by “Give a little bit”. When he introduced Aaron the applause was also very enthusiastic and Roger was joking “You brought some Canadians along with you?”
It was the third concert I visited and what shall I say – the first one was in Stuttgart with orchestra and that was perfect, the second one was last year in Nuremberg and it was brilliant and this concert was ??? What is the climax? I have the feeling even if the other concerts were perfect and brilliant; Roger and Aaron are even doing better every time I hear them. That’s beautiful magical!!!
Roger’s voice was in such a good shape it was unbelievable and Aaron is not the same Aaron as on the DVD. He really blooms up and turns out to be a one man band. Whereas on the DVD he only plays sax, he is now singing, playing keyboard, piano… He was a real busy man on stage – LOL
Once the concert starts I always have the deep wish to stop the time. I don’t want the concert to be over because every moment is so precious and it feels like refilling up my heart and my soul with joy, happiness and love.
I love all of Roger’s songs but at the concert I enjoyed very much the ones he played with his twelve string like “Along came Mary”, “Rosie”, “Sister Moonshine”
A real highlight for me also was “Soapbox Opera”, a song that is not very famous but therefore very gorgeous. It was a real pleasure to hear it live.
But the absolute climax was the song “Teach me to love again” – a song that Roger played the second time and here is like Roger announced the song:
"So this is for all of you, who - who came last year and didn't hear it last year - hopelessly - and - emmmm - if you don't clap, you won't hear it next year!"
Roger raises his ´hands up to the sky and says:
"Sometimes I'm amazed about the things that come out of my mouth. Okay this is the song - it's called 'Teach me to love again!
Wow, I can’t describe with words how touching this song is. Roger accompanies the song only with grand piano and it sounds very melancholic. Roger’s voice is rather deep in the beginning and sounds so rich.

After he had finished and the audience gave him the really well deserved applause, he gave Aaron a sign and Aaron laughed and shook his head. Roger went to the Wurlitzer and said: “I’m going to do something now that I’ve never done before in my life: I’m going to play it again. But this is actually a special birthday present for Sabine, who came all the way from Malta. Where are you Sabine? Sabine, Why don’t you stand up and everyone can applaud?” That is Roger: he doesn’t only speak of love, he gives us his love. Wow, what a great moment - “our Beanie” got Roger’s special birthday present and we all were so indescribable happy with her.

Another surprise was the performance of “Fool’s overture”. I heard that song with orchestra in Stuttgart and I couldn’t imagine that they would be able to perform this huge piece of music without orchestra. They were. And they really did an awesome job. It was brilliant and again I didn’t miss anything. The sound was so rich and it was perfect as all songs. No need for percussion, bass, etc. this pure sound is simply gorgeous.

Of course Roger played all the songs like “Dreamer”, “Logical Song” and “It’s raining again” and it’s needless to say that every one in the audience was singing and dancing.

When Roger left the stage, “the gang” gathered again in front of the stage and we agreed to sing “Happy Birthday” for Roger when he comes out again for the encore. We did so and raised our banner for him. Aaron supported us with the sax for the last chords, which was very funny.
We threw the banner onstage and Roger opened it so that everyone could see it. He was quite touched and said: “I’m the happiest man alive. In one and a half hour it’s my birthday and so this is my birthday party”. He went from stage and the concert came to an end.
What an event! I guess we all were kind of drunk because of happiness and joy and couldn’t believe that another came true.
After the show we sat together at the nearby hotel and wallowed in the happenings of that special day.
You can’t imagine how hard it was to say goodbye to some of my friends. Especially my “soul mate” Christine couldn’t come along with us for sightseeing on Saturday and I really missed her already when we left the hotel.

The next day some of “the gang” gathered again in the city for a small sightseeing trip through the old city of Nuremberg and we had a lot of fun together again. And again the “goodbye” was very hard… I hate it.

I’m really happy that we had two wonderful days together and that we can share so many precious moments. I really found true friends in Kathy’s forum and I want to thank you all that you are what you are. And Kathy: special thanks to you chat mom – without you these friendships would never came into being.

Thank you so much Roger for your music, for your love you give us and for these unforgettable moments with you.
And last but not least thank you so much Linda for arranging this “big deal” for us.

Fundraiser revisits the 60s

Fri, June 19, 2009

By JAMES REANEY

The Grand Theatre goes back to the 1960s tonight for a good cause.

The seventh edition of the Grand House Party uses songs from the era in the annual benefit for Women's Community House.

"This year's theme is 'pet sounds of the '60s' with the music of the Beach Boys and others," says Pamela Coray, Grand House Party executive producer and development manager for Women's Community House, 101 Wellington Rd.

It takes inspiration from the legendary Beach Boys album, Pet Sounds.

With nine vocalists sharing the leads and the harmonies, the 20-song hit list stretches from that 1966 album's Sloop John B to such hitmakers as the Monkees, Petula Clark and Roy Orbison.

"All of these singers have their own niche. Everybody is really superb at what they do. I couldn't say one stands out. The mix of them is really incredible," London singer Jean Meilleur says of the guest vocalists.

They include former Londoner Andrea Koziol and London singer and saxophonist Aaron Macdonald. Also taking turns with the 1960s' hit parade are Katalin Kiss, Kathryn Rose, Leah Salomaa, Lis Soderberg, Neil Donell and Rique Franks.

Meilleur expects to take the lead on the Monkees' Daydream Believer and Tom Jones's It's Not Unusual.

"Aaron Macdonald the sax player/singer . . . there's just sort of a glow, if you will, when he walks on the stage," Meilleur says. "He's super talented but he just has this mischievous real charisma on stage."

Macdonald says he will be "crooning on a few Beach Boys tunes . . . and blowing sax" on other songs. The concert will be one of the few London appearances in recent times for Macdonald. He continues to tour with British rocker Roger Hodgson, formerly of Supertramp.

Macdonald is to make stops in Norway, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland as the tour continues into the fall.

The set list is inspired by the choices of event sponsors and leading Londoners.

Women's Community House serves more than 700 abused women and their children annually.

Roger Hodgson Open to Supertramp Reunion

June 4, 2009 – I guess it was bound to blow up. What Crisis?” in 1975, followed by “Even in the Quietest Moment” from 1977 and their commercial crowning glory 1979’s “Breakfast in America.”

Though it all ended with Roger Hodgson leaving the band in 1983, Supertramp chose to continue, recording another 4 albums without the guy who sang most of the hits.

Even though fans have cried for a reunion through the years Hodgson says he’s not the one holding it back. He might be the one that left but contrary to public belief Hodgson would rejoin if the situation was right.

Talking to Sun media Hodgson said, "I would never say never to that. We'll see what the future brings."

Through the years there have been close-calls for get-togethers but every time things fell through.

His Supertramp hits like the “Logical Song" and “Give a little Bit” are still getting loads of airplay on Classic Rock and AC radio.

Hodgson says, “People have more of a relationship with those songs because they take them back to their dreams, their longings and their desires. The Logical Song is a deep song about how we are taught to behave instead of how we are, who God is and where's true love. It doesn't tell us anything important about ourselves."

- by John Beaudin © Copyright (c) Rock History Book.com.

Zürich/Switzerland 18.05.2009

One could say I've seen it all - so many times I saw Roger in Concert, but every time it's a new and unbelievable experience, like last night in Zürich . . .

Roger started the show joking about his experience with the usually rather "sophisticated" swiss audience.
As he finally began to play, it turned out to be one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

The place was so full of positive energy, surrounding everyone, so it seemed. It was just incredible. The "sophisticated" and normally rather a little reserved swiss audience was joining in to Roger's music with clapping and singing along as if it would be the last performance ever.
Well, indeed we have to travel quite far to see more of Roger's Concerts. Here people can't enjoy Roger as much as in Germany or instance.
It was a magical night. Roger and Aaron complemented each other in a fantastic way and with every concert the two seem to improve their team-work. Aaron also did get a lot of approval from the audience for his extraordinary performance.

I can't really say much about what Songs were played - he played them all the Song we love so much.
Topped was the performance with "Fools Overture" where Roger said it was the best Song he had ever written.
There were three or four encores, because the audience just didn't want them to go. Who knows when he will be back in Switzerland for a other fantastic show . . .

Check the TOURDATES
<a class="external" href="http://rogerhodgson.wetpaint.comhttp://www.rogerhodgson.com/"
